na het vliegtuig en gisteren de trein, dat was ook nog een gepuzzel waar ik moest opstappen, kwam eerst aan bij het verkeerde treinstation en na weer een taxi voor 5 euro naar de juiste halte. ritje van 7,50 euro totaal met de taxi en dan de trein was nog geen 12 euro. daarna de scooter gehuurd en maar beter ook dat dat direct kon bij m’n verblijf want een stel die in de bus zaten vandaag hebben alle tempels bezichtigen door gebruik te maken van de tuk tuk en dat was erg omslachtig. telkens onderhandelen over de prijs. ik zag dat bij het treinstation scooters te huur stonden dan had ik er daar direct eentje genomen als ik hun was maar goed. het is allemaal een beetje uitvinden hoe het hier werkt en ik was al een beetje voorbereid door in een Facebook groep te zitten van mensen die rondreizen in Thailand. 😊

en vandaag dan opgehaald door een tuk tuk om vervolgens in de is te stappen, een 9 uur durende trip naar. Chang Mai. meer luxe dan de trein (die gaat vaak snachst ) en zo zie je nog eens iets onderweg er naartoe.

Chiang Mai of Chiengmai, is de hoofdstad van de provincie Chiang Mai. De plaats ligt zo'n 700 km ten noorden van Bangkok tussen de hoogste bergen van het land. In 1468 werd de Smaragdgroene Boeddha in de naar het oosten gerichte nis geplaatst. Na een aardbeving in 1545 stortte de Chedi gedeeltelijk in, waardoor deze 30 meter lager werd.

Wat Phan Tao is een oude tempel die pal naast de heilige Wat Chedi Luang in de stad Chiang Mai ligt. Het staat bekend om zijn prachtige wijdingszaal (Wihan) in Lanna-stijl, volledig gemaakt van teakhout, die diende als troonzaal tijdens het bewind van koning Mahotara Prateth. Het is nu waar het heilige Phan Tao Boeddha-beeld is vastgelegd.
